Helping Gaza Get a Bread Factory
KUALA LUMPUR : Members of Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) and Global Peace Mission will be joining forces in Gaza next month to help the people there.
ABIM secretary-general Mohamad Raimi Ab Rahim said the humanitarian mission was a follow-up to the "Tabung Pendidikan & Kemanusiaan Palestin" launched by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Aug 2.
GPM relief operations director Azlan Muhammad Sharif will join other activists and volunteers in the first phase of the humanitarian mission.
Raimi said several long-term projects would be carried out for the Palestinians but "our focus now is to build a bread factory there".
"Once the factory, expected to cost RM200,000, is operational, it will be able to supply food to the people in Gaza."
Azlan, meanwhile, said the factory could also provide employment to the people.
"The main issues we want to highlight are food and unemployment.
"So, with the construction of this factory, not only will we provide them food but also create job opportunities for the locals," Azlan said adding financial aid would be given to ensure the running of the factory.
The teams would depart on Oct 11 for six months.
"We welcome donations and I call upon all Malaysians to help us achieve our humanitarian mission," Azlan said.
